Peter Sumner Walton Bellamy lives and works in New York. Known primarily for his portraits of artists and playwrights, he has also photographed landscapes in both urban and wilderness environments.
Early in his career, Bellamy worked for the filmmaker Orson Welles, and he was Louise Bourgeois’s personal photographer for many years. Bellamy's projects include documentary portraits of visual artists, many of which are included in his 1991 book The Artist Project: Portraits of the Real Art World / New York Artists 1981-1990. His second book, Addict’s Damn: An Interleaving of Architecture and the Homeless, was published in 1995. His Playwright Portrait Project, begun in 2010, is ongoing.
